I do. I drive them around for a while, get a feel for them and then give them a name that seems to fit. I know lots of people that do. My Dad certainly did, although it seemed all his cars were named ‘Gert’, which we all thought meant Gertrude, but in fact meant something quite different in cockney slang.

Chatting with my mates down the pub on Sunday, as the new Premier League season kicked off and the news of so many high-priced footballers now kicking the inflated bladder around the park, we got to asking who was driving what. It is not just the top transfer targets that can afford the mega cars either; the average wage in the premiership now stands at more than 2.4 million pounds per annum, which of course means that even your more ordinary footballer can afford an interesting ride.

The Great Britain government’s GBP3 billion pound clean air strategy has not impressed environmental campaigners there, who claim that it is not “fast enough or far enough”. The move includes the banning of petrol- and diesel-powered cars by 2040, and sweeping powers to local councils to improve air quality, but does not include any form of scrappage scheme that the environmentalists had been baying for.
