There was a time when cars would end up in the junkyard long before the odometre reaches the six-figure mark. In fact, cars from the sixties and seventies had odometres which clocked up to 99,999 miles only before reverting to all zeros, and continuing to drive one that had already surpassed 100,000 miles was an accident waiting to happen.
