Electric Motorcycle Battery Burns Man Alive in Lift, Is It Going To Happen in Malaysia?

It already has happened, the picture is of e-bikes burning outside of a KL Mall back in April of 2023, picture The Star.

We are headed to an all-Electric Vehicle future, or so we are told. But what we are not being told is the number of these devises that are malfunctioning and maiming or killing the owner, especially within confined spaces like the family home or just as horrifically the cramped confines of an elevator in a block of flats in which case an electric motorcycle battery burns its owner alive.

Just do a simple search on the interweb and you will come across pages upon pages of news stories of how people have narrowly cheated death when their personal mobility device decided to become a barbeque. Worse still the number of news reports that detail the demise of those unfortunately unable to escape the blaze.

Currently there is graphic video of an older gentlemen taking his electric motorcycle battery into a lift, presumably to recharge it in his apartment, he enters the lift and as the doors close the battery quite literally barbeques the owner. Other residents rush to the rescue but to no avail.

It is not just in Taiwan where this is happening, there are reports from Singapore, China, India, Britain and so on and so on. There has been a veritable spate of bad news concerning, in particular, fires and explosions concerning two-wheeled motorcycles that have detailed horrifying injuries and in some cases deaths.

There is much scrutiny of the batteries and the chargers but for me it calls into question the safety of any vehicle that can so easily spontaneously combust and then be so disastrously difficult to extinguish.  For now it would seem that the authorities are quite happy to sacrifice a few unfortunate members of the public in their quest for a carbon free future.  Which is sad particularly as most EV’s are actually more carbon intensive to produce and run that the internal combustion machines they are trying to replace, as we have often mentioned in this blog.

In all honesty, such EV bike fires are caused primarily by EV Battery Thermal runaway during charging, as well as inadequate battery thermal management….attributed by the rushed product development process and excessive cost cutting deployed by manufacturers ….just to make more profit
