In the sleepy Romanian town of Braila, traffic CCTV cameras have caught the moment when a late night driver decided to take the short way around a roundabout. The footage shows a car travelling at speed approaching the roundabout, hitting the sidewall then flying through the air across the roundabout before coming to a splash landing, sunny side up, in a puddle on the other side of the junction.
It’s doubtful that the puddle cushioned the landing very much and the wall of the roundabout certainly did a good job of stripping the car of some much needed trimmings. A report carried in the UK’s Daily Telegraph said that the driver, a 22-year-old male, had fallen asleep just before the collision but escaped dazed and confused but otherwise unhurt. When you watch the video you will see that the driver actually had the presence of mind to turn on his hazard warning lights shortly after his splash landing.
