Is the new Porsche 911 Turbo S the Supreme All-Rounder? I Think So Even If I Did Get a GTS

I think everyone knows that I am a bit of a 911 fan-boy, hang out with me and my mates and the conversation invariably gets to comparing Porsche variants. Now, there is a special kind of madness that grips anyone who starts comparing 911 variants. You start out rational, talking about torque curves, rear-axle steering, and whether the Sport Chrono package is worth it, and before you know it, you’re defending your choice like you’ve just hand-built the car yourself. I should know. I went for the GTS. Yet, every time I see a Turbo S howl past, I can’t help but think: that’s the one. The ultimate. The supreme all-rounder.
And that happened this morning on my way to work, a gorgeous midnight blue one pulled up next to me. I locked eyes with the owner and for a fleeting minute we were as one, kindred spirits, admiring each other’s rides. Then, oh too soon, the lights changed and like ships in the night we disappeared in different directions.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: the Turbo S is the heaviest 911 road car ever built. Nearly 1.7 tonnes, which in Porsche terms is like strapping a small fridge to the back of a 993 Carrera. But then, with 650 horsepower and a 0–100 km/h time of 2.7 seconds, it’s also the fastest 911 road car ever made. You can practically bend time in one of these things. It’s absurd. You feel it in your chest cavity when the turbos spool up and an unholy whoosh that turns the horizon into a blur.

But what makes the Turbo S truly special isn’t just its speed, it’s the way it does everything else. You can drive it to the supermarket, you can cross Europe in it, or you can terrorize a racetrack. It never flinches. Active aerodynamics, adaptive dampers, all-wheel drive that seems to predict the weather, it’s a car engineered not just for performance, but for domination. It’s as if Porsche asked: “What if God needed to commute?”
And yes, I know what you’re thinking. The GTS is the purist’s choice, lighter, rear-drive, slightly more playful. That’s why I bought one. It’s the one that flatters your ego while keeping your insurance premiums vaguely believable. But when you drive a Turbo S, you realize it’s not just a faster 911; it’s the 911 perfected. The all-weather, all-scenario, all-human solution to performance motoring.
So, is the Porsche 911 Turbo S the supreme all-rounder? Absolutely. Even if I’ll keep pretending my GTS was the wiser choice, while secretly knowing it wasn’t. Because deep down, every 911 owner suspects the truth: the Turbo S isn’t just the top of the range. It’s the top of the food chain.
I want one, now I just need to find the RM2.2 million they cost in my Malaysia.
