Artist Mohd Rozamil Mohd Yatim, or Zameer_pentbrush as he’s known on Instagram is a Malaysian artist that transforms cars with pop art and anime inspired paintings over cars.
The style is called “border-line” painting technique that he learned online and the 39-year-old artist from Seberang Takir, Terengganu, is highly sought by vehicle owners in Malaysia as well as in Brunei and Singapore, who want to give their cars a unique identity through anime-inspired artwork.
Rozamil told Bernama that his paintings are done “randomly and spontaneously” on the body of the vehicle to make it look like something out of a comic book or animation.
“For each project, I don’t prepare a preliminary sketch on a computer. With just a rough idea and a discussion with the customer about what they want, I start to paint. It all happens spontaneously,” he said.
“If there are parts that don’t meet customers’ satisfaction, I will make the necessary changes until they are happy,” said Rozamil, who takes three to five hours to complete each project.
The artist, who has close to 20 years of experience with the airbrush technique, said he has worked on over 30 vehicles, including pickup trucks, MPVs, motorcycles, and even heavy machinery such as excavators.
The father of two recalled that when his car artwork went viral early last year, he was surprised by the attention and positive feedback he received.
His most popular video was posted on TikTok and it was a video of him drawing on top of a Lamborghini Aventador. It seemed to be an artwork to promote a watch brand, the Haofa Tourbillon.
He further explained that border-line painting, involves the use of acrylic marker pens and does not damage the vehicle’s original paint. The artwork can last up to a year, or even longer if the vehicle’s body is fitted with quality paint-protection film.
Rozamil said his children, aged 13 and 11, often help him with his work. “When I have jobs out of town that take two to three days to complete, I will bring along my whole family, as long as the trips don’t disrupt my children’s schooling.
“They then help me paint my customers’ vehicles. Sometimes they’ll start the artwork and I’ll finish it, or apply the finishing touches. I do this to boost their confidence,” he concluded.
Our favourite is his transformation of this GT-R. Enjoy
