Koenigsegg CC850 – Reimagining the CC8S Twenty Years Later…

Swedish supercar manufacturer, Koenigsegg, is paying homage to “the single most meaningful car in Koenigsegg’s history”. The CC8S was the company’s first-ever production car that put it on the map. To celebrate the 20 years since the CC8S was launched and founder Christian Von Koenigsegg turning 50, the CC850 was revealed during the 2022 Monterrey Car Week. It featured a sleek familiar design of Nordic inspiration.

Inside, you get creature comforts such as sporty leather interiors, climate control, birds-eye view parking assistance, Apple Car Play and USB connections. And the dials are all analogue. Nice.

The engine is a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers up to 1,385 hp (on E85 fuel) and 1,385 Nm of torque, giving it a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio! It uses the same engine mill as the Koenigsegg Jesko and utilizes the same monocoque chassis as its first-ever production car. Top speed is an impressive 480kph.

The more interesting bit is the Engage Shift System (ESS) that lets you seamlessly switch between six-speed manual AND a nine-speed automatic transmissions, and depending on road and traffic conditions, switch between normal, wet and track modes for different driving gear ratios.

“The CC850 is up there, performance-wise, with our most extreme cars, but it’s kind of this middle ground. It is an extreme machine with close to record-breaking performance in many, many ways, but with a focus of pure enjoyment, celebration, and the analogue aspect of the hypercars of the past,” said Christian.
Only 50 units will be built. One will be gifted to Christian as a birthday present. And of the remaining 49 units, almost all have been taken. Price? According to Bloomberg, the car has a price tag upwards of USD3.65million.
