Man Throws Himself On Windscreen to Extort Money But Dashcam Saves the Day

Just a few weeks ago, a man was caught on tape trying to scam a motorist by pretending to be struck down by the latter’s car. Luckily, there was a dashcam installed that captured it all!
The incident took place in Klang, a town located on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia. In the dashcam footage, after the car turns into the road, the pedestrian is clearly seen waiting to “cross the road”; he then runs towards the car as it approaches and intentionally launches himself onto it, hitting the windscreen and bonnet, and slumping to the ground. Then, two ladies quickly enter the scene to “help” the “victim”. But it was all a ploy. Their intention was simply to extort money from the driver.
To a passer-by, the immediate conclusion would be that it was the driver’s fault. The driver could have panicked and succumb to the scam, but instead told the group of scammers to wait for the police to arrive as there was video evidence. The three characters then quickly vanished.
This is an old trick used throughout the world and is a lesson we can all learn from. Firstly, install a dashcam and we suggest you get one that records the front and rear. Do invest in a good one that has clear resolution as they are not very expensive. Secondly, you can follow the simple idea of allowing pedestrians to cross ahead of you; many countries have even made it a law and even though it is not compulsory in many more, such as here in Malaysia, why not follow safe driving practices?
Now, the question is, who is going to pay for the windscreen and likely damaged bonnet and bumper? Share your thoughts and drive safe.
